3.) Where are you originally from?: Odessa, TX. Home of Friday Night Lights!

5.) What are your two favorite hobbies?: Crafts and garage sale shopping.

6.) What would you most like to tell your 13 year old self?: “Trust your instincts.”

7.) If you could have coffee with three people, dead or alive, who would it be? Jesus, my late grandma, Georgia, and John Wayne.

8.) Who is the most famous person you have ever met?: I’ll pick Sydney Pollack, because we actually became friends.

9.) What is your dream vacation?: Dubai and stay in the Burj Al Arab.

10.) What is the one thing, you can’t live without?: My lipstick/balm.

11.) What is your proudest moment at HA/HU? A dad came in as his son was moving out, to thank me for being here for him. He gave me a thank you card with a Cold Stone Creamery gift card inside.

Angie’s Corner: Carpe Diem

Appreciate the small things and be present in the moment. What do I mean? Well, it seems today, younger people are about immediate gratification. Instead, why not appreciate every small moment? We don’t get to stay on this crazy, wonderful planet forever and the greatest pleasure can be found in the most mundane of activities. Instead of sending a text, pick up the phone and call someone. Call your mother or best friend, have a conversation about nothing in particular. Those are the moments to hold onto.

Homestead America HVAC Training

Our very own Brandon Bradley, Maintenance Supervisor for Shaker Square, put together an HVAC training class for the HA maintenance team. They learned quite a bit including transitioning from R22 to 427A and 410A. Michael Fisher helped with the 410A training. Afterward lunch was sponsored by Chadwell Supply and invited all Maintenance Supervisors and Community Managers.

The Quest for the Ben Franklin Award Begins!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Spring cleaning at Homestead America!

The 9th annual Ben Franklin contest was kicked off in style. As last year’s winner, the Team at Shaker Square took the ball and (wrapped it in saran wrap) and ran with it.  A great team building day was had by all!

The kickoff marks the official start of our industry’s busy leasing season.  The Ben Franklin contest is a fun way of appreciating all the hard work that goes into preparing our sites for the season.  We pride ourselves on providing the best resident life experience possible and that often starts with curb appeal.  We want our residents to appreciate a beautiful place to come home to and our guests to feel at home and want to make their new home with us.

Thus, the dawn of the Ben Franklin contest!  In June awards will be given for Best Curb Appeal and for Best Team Effort so stay tuned!

8.) Who is the most famous person you have ever met?: Ralphie May, he performed at OSU.

9.) What is your dream vacation?: Galway, Ireland. To my great grandparents’ estate

10.) What is the one thing, you can’t live without?: Coffee!!! and bakeries.

11.) What is your proudest moment at HA/HU? My first lease. I was excited and they were happy to have a great new home!

The team swarmed the Hollywood Casino in red again this year for the 2017 CAA Expo. The Monopoly themed event was a success and a great opportunity for our leasing and maintenance managers to connect with vendors. “The bus ride over to El Vaquero was a great opportunity for me to bond with the Homestead team members. I’m looking forward to next year’s expo!” said Shannon Latsko of University Village.

Race for the Cure – Saturday, May 20th 2017

As most of you know, one of our beloved employees, Cheryl Davis, is still battling breast cancer for the second time!  It has been a long road, but she continues to fight the fight!  Unfortunately, we have just found out that another beloved, long-term employee has also been recently diagnosed.  Donna Grove, our Director of Maintenance in Athens, has just started her fight against this vile disease!

To support and honor both of these strong women in their fight, Homestead America/U is once again participating in this year’s Race for the Cure, on Saturday, May 20th, in downtown Columbus.  Please help us by joining our team, Cheryl and Donna’s HAHU Crusaders!  

As an employee, Homestead will pay your registration fee.  You will just need to use the Discount Code of HAHU17.  We welcome you to bring your family and friends, but please only use the Discount Code for your registration.  Unless you specifically want to do otherwise, we will be participating in the 1 Mile Family Fun Walk, so all ages and fitness levels can participate.

More details will be given as we get closer, but we will again meet at the office in the morning, and one of the UV buses will drop us off closer to the starting line.  This way, everyone can park here, and we can all go over together.

2.) What were you doing before Homestead?: I was a leasing consultant at Steeplechase Village in Columbus, Ohio.

5.) What do you like to do outside of work?: I enjoy spending time with my wife, Sarah, and son, Charlie. I’m a big Ohio State and Columbus Blue Jackets fan.
