Angies Corner: Won’t Back Down

Posted by:

In honor of one of my all time favorite singers, Tom Petty:

“Well, I won’t back down. No, I won’t back down. You can stand me up at the gates of hell, but I won’t back down. No, I’ll stand my ground. Won’t be turned around. And I’ll keep this world from draggin’ me down. Gonna stand my ground.” – “I Won’t Back Down,” 1989.

Homestead U is making the turn!

Posted by:

It’s that time of the year again! That magical time when many of our residents are moving on, others make the wise decision to stay for another awesome year of residence, and many new faces are starting fresh at Homestead U. Some call it “Turns” others call it “Rush” – whatever you call it, we know it’s our time to shine. That means more man hours and a lot of elbow grease from the Homestead U team.

Repairs, painting, cleaning, scrubbing, moving furniture, landscaping, more cleaning, organizing residents, organizing vendors, fielding concerns, and welcoming our new residents are just the beginning of the tasks our teams do during this crazy time of year. “For some of you, this is the hardest you have ever worked. It will push you to your max, both physically and mentally, and STILL be one of the COOLEST things you have ever done!” says Ally Herron, Director of Operations.

As we prepare for the next school year at our communities, all of us at the home office are grateful for our teams out in the trenches. You are the reason residents come to live at Homestead U, and the reason so many of them decide to stay! “For those of you who have never done turn before, WELCOME TO THE CLUB!  Only those who have done it and survived it, will ever truly get it,” says Herron.

The 2017 Ben Franklin Awards

Posted by:

The overall winners of the Homestead America Ben Franklin contest for 2017….

Best Curb Appeal goes to

         OLDE TOWNE APARTMENTS!

Congratulations to Rae and Scott (and thanks to all of you that helped in Scott’s absence.)

Olde Towne has that fresh and crisp look and feel we strive for.  Has a very homey yet “resort style” look to it.  Rae even still had her clippers out and branches in her hand when we arrived. “You always find one more thing when you are looking at the small details”

Best Team Effort goes to

          CENTURY CITY APARTMENTS!

Congratulations to Dustin, Junior, Val, Cheryl, Annette, Carlee, Ed, Walt, Vondale and Terry!

Having a less than shoestring budget did not stop this team from beautifying their community.  They took out many trees (with help from the project days’ teams), they pulled out rose bushes and replanted to the front, painted, primed and shined.

I would be remiss not to mention all of the maintenance team members that continued the tradition of “project days” and helped out at each others’ communities.  Great team effort!  Special Honorary Mention to Majid who did not miss a single project day!

It made my heart swell with pride to drive around with the owner of our company, great to watch his smile, and have you show off your beautiful communities.  The hard work really showed. GREAT JOB! – Jennifer Cooper, VP of Operations for Homestead America

Meet Jennifer Conley

Posted by:

Name: Jennifer Conley

Job Title: Homestead U Regional Manager

Jennifer Conley joins the Homestead U Team as a Regional Manager for the midwest and southern regions. Conley is originally from Center Valley, Pennsylvania, but she grew up in Tampa, Florida.

Jennifer studied elementary education at Florida Atlantic University and started working in multi family in 2004 in the Tampa bay area, working on several new developments/initial lease ups before getting into student housing in 2009. She started her student career with the dinnerstein companies in Tampa Florida as a general manager for a 722 bed purpose built student property. That property was acquired by campus Advantage in 2010 and she continued to manage it until 2013 when she was relocated to Gainesville, FL to manage a 1488 bed property serving the university of Florida. When that property sold in January 2015, Conley became a regional manager and most recently managed a portfolio of 7 properties in 6 markets with a mix of owned and 3rd party assets. “I would say my areas of expertise include initial lease ups, acquisitions and third party client relations” said Conley.

When Jennifer is not working she enjoys doing anything outside. She likes to spend her weekends with her husband and kids in the Florida sun fishing on their boat, or at the happiest place on earth-Disney!

“I’m so excited for this new chapter in my career and  to be joining the incredible homestead team!!”

Angie’s Corner: Enjoy the small prizes.

Posted by:

Most of us miss out on life’s big prizes. The Pulitzer, The Nobel, Oscars, The World Cup. But, we’re all eligible for life’s smaller prizes… a pat on the back, a kiss behind the ear, a four-pound bass, a full moon, an empty parking space, a crackling fire, a great meal, a glorious sunset, hot soup, a cold beer.

Angie Tsitouris is the Director of First Impressions at Homestead. Each month she will share a little life wisdom.
